25-26 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome Otters to the 25-26 school year!

I'm excited and optimistic about the year ahead as we embark on this journey together. I look forward to continuing to build relationships with staff, our learners, and their families, to create a positive learning community where we can all grow. I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer and that your learners are recharged and ready for school.

As we prepare to embark on this new academic journey, I'm thrilled to share our theme for this year: "Empowerment through Competency." This year, we're taking a significant step forward as we transition to becoming a competency-based school. This means focusing on what learners truly know and can do, rather than just how much time they spend in a classroom. We believe that by emphasizing mastery of skills and knowledge, we can better empower our learners to take ownership of their learning, advocate for themselves, and develop the resilience needed to navigate challenges. This year, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where every learner feels capable, confident, and inspired to reach their full potential.

We're also excited to revamp our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework this year, centered around our Otters DIVE! This acronym stands for:

  • Driven:  Demonstrating focus, effort, and persistence towards achieving personal and academic goals. It means being motivated to learn, grow, and do your best, even when faced with challenges.
  • Integrity:  Acting honestly, ethically, and consistently with strong moral principles, even when no one is watching. It means being truthful, trustworthy, and accountable for your words and actions.
  • Valued: Feeling respected, appreciated, and that one's unique contributions and presence are important and recognized within the learning community. It means understanding that we all belong and that everyone’s thoughts and feelings matter.
  • Empowered: Having the confidence, knowledge, and support to take ownership of one's learning and behavior, make responsible choices, and advocate for oneself and others. It means feeling sure of yourself, knowing what to do, and having help when you need it, so you can make good choices, learn new things, and speak up for yourself and others.

Here are a few important updates and reminders as we begin the new school year:

  • First Day of School: August 18th, 2025. School begins daily at 8:10am. Student dismissal times are Mondays at 1:43pm and Tuesday-Friday at 2:30pm. Teacher contract time is 8 am to 3:15 pm daily.
  • Back-to-School Night: August 28th, PTA dinner 5:00-5:45pm, followed by Staff Introductions and PTA meeting from 5:45-6:00. Classroom presentations 6:00-7:00
  • Empathy Interviews: September 2nd-September 5th,  **12:55 DISMISSALS**

Detailed information about these events and more can be found in the monthly newsletters and weekly bulletins.

Communication: We strive to maintain open and transparent communication with our families. To make sure we have your most up-to-date information, please complete this year’s online Back-to-School packet as soon as possible. A link will be sent to the email we have on file in early August. Also, please join your student’s classroom Parent Square account once school starts. This will let you communicate directly with your student’s teacher, and with me, through the Parent Square app. Finally, if you haven’t already, make sure you sign up for a PowerSchool Parent Portal account. If you need help or information regarding PowerSchool, or you did not get a link for the online Back-to-School packet, please contact Kristen, our wonderful school secretary, in the office at 707-441-2547.

Warmest regards,

Teri Silvers
